Our goal

City plan of Oulu defines that the area of Ritaharju-Teknologiakylä-Linnanmaa will be developed to focus innovation activity based high tech, research, development and education. The city strategy of Oulu requires that digitalization will be harnessed in the development of future smart city services.

The current principles of urban design planning will be evaluated from the smart city development point of view. Additionally, the models of digital infrastructure planning will be evaluated.

How we operate

MetaCity Oulu project co-operates intensively with the Oulu Innovation Alliance three programs of “Digitalization in the changing urban environment”, with which there will be conducted special Proof-of-Concept pilot projects. Selected companies scaling from start-ups to bigger companies will be invited to pilots. This supports the cross-cutting OIA program of company ecosystems. The aim of pilots is to develop them further and scale up to international markets.

Metacity is coordinated by the University of Oulu. In addition to Oulu University of Applied Science, other sub projects are managed by VTT and city of Oulu.
